Canadian expats in Dubai celebrate national day

Canadian expatriates celebrated Canada Day Tuesday for the first time in Dubai with a fun party, flaunting the famous Red and White flag and a trip to a naval warship at Jebel Ali.

The Canadian Business Council arranged the party at the Jumairah Beach Club at which 130 expats came to celebrate. The party started the night before July 1, when Captain Harry Harsch of HMCS Fredrickton held a reception aboard the ship for all Canadian expats.

"It was a great evening where we networked and met with the Canadian forces," Faisal Khilji, one of the organisers of the Dubai party said.

Canada Day celebrates the events on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act created the Canadian federal government.
