Al Rais and Al Tahir emerge joint leaders
Dubai Mohamed Ibrahim Al Rais (Dubai) and Abdulla Al Tahir (Sharjah) emerged as joint leaders in the Under-16 section at the end of the 8th and penultimate round of the National Junior Chess Championship.
Khaled Khamis Ali ( Ajman) and Majid Mohd Majid ( Fujairah) are in second spot with 5.5 points.
The event goes down to the crucial encounter in the ninth and final round between Mohamed Rais and Abdullah while Majed and Khaled Khamis Ali battle it out for the second spot.
The reigning national champion Yahaya Mohamed Saleh of Dubai is representing the country in Arab junior Under 16 Chess Championship to be held at the Republic of Yemen next year.
In the under-14 section Ahmad Ishaq (Dubai), Marwan A.Wahhab (Ajman) won crucial games after a marathon struggle for top honours.
Khalifa Khamis Ali (Ajman) is close with six points as the tournament heads for a classic finish.
In the under-12 section Khouri Ibrahim Mohd (Abu Dhabi) is expected to prevail having gained a slender half point lead over Abdulrehman Mohamed of Sharjah.
Ali Khamis Ali of Ajman faltered at the decisive moment and is in third spot with 6 points.
