Al Ain court orders man to pay Dh3,000 in damages for sending threatening message to woman

Al Ain: Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to pay Dh3,000 in moral damages to a woman he threatened through an electronic message. 

 The woman, whose identity was not disclosed, had filed a civil lawsuit demanding Dh60,000 in damages, along with 5 per cent legal interest and court fees, arguing that the threat caused her emotional distress. 

The incident was previously addressed in a criminal court, where the man was convicted by the Al Ain Appeals Prosecution and fined for sending a threatening message via an information technology platform.

In its ruling, the Al Ain Civil, Commercial, and Administrative Court confirmed the man’s conviction and described the threat as a “verbal warning containing a promise of harm.” The court acknowledged that this constituted a legal fault but noted that the message lacked any actionable means or signs of real danger.

“The threat was purely verbal, unaccompanied by any real risk or mechanism for execution,” the court stated. “Its impact was confined to psychological discomfort, manifesting as anxiety, stress, and fear, rather than any tangible or lasting harm.”
