The Airport Golf Club and Academy, Abu Dhabi, opened its new teaching facility in April this year and is proving to be very popular with golfers right across the UAE and beyond.

The unique teaching system consists of a Royle Golf Visual Communication system in conjunction with Durnian Frames.

The Royle Golf System videos the golfer from various angles and replays the swing on monitors with overlaid graphics to enable him to see accurately what he should be doing.

The Durnian Frames then allow him to feel what he should be doing – the frames consist of metal guides set in the correct line of the swing plane through which the golfer swings the club to hit a ball.

In addition to this advanced technology, the Academy offers two teaching professionals, access to a performance consultant, a 30-bay floodlit driving range, both sand and grass chipping and putting areas, rules and etiquette workshops, a club repair and fitting centre, a coffee shop with beautiful views, and a club trial and demonstration area with indoor putting space.

The brain behind the teaching technology is Denis Durnian, a pro with the European Senior Tour, who originally invented the frames for his own benefit. Having joined the merchant navy at 16, he started playing golf while on shore leave.
