Registration and admission to Ajman University of Science and Technology's Abu Dhabi and Al Ain campuses has been delayed for the next academic year 2002-03 because they have reached full student capacity.
Students already registered, however, will follow the existing academic calendar. Work to expand the campuses will start soon, while 86 new lecturers are expected to join.
Thamer Saeed Salman, general manager of Administrative and Financial Affairs, said: "The decision to delay registration and admission was taken because the campuses are full. If stretched beyond the limit, it will affect the standard of education. Registration will start later according to instructions from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research."
The university has ensured that its standard, since its establishment in 1988, is maintained.
"This has earned the AUST the reputation of being a well-known university that is widely acclaimed in the UAE and the region. We will never compromise on quality."
Development plans will be implemented during the new academic year 2002-03 to accommodate the growing number of students.
The first phase of construction has been completed in the Fujairah campus. Some 2,000 students will be accommodated and they will start studies in the second semester of the academic year 2002-03.
The expansion process in the university city in Jarf will also start soon and on completion, it will be able to accommodate 6,000 new students, in addition to the existing ones. Studies will start during the academic year 2003-04.
Care has been taken to ensure that these expansions will provide a better educational environment with laboratories, libraries and gymnasiums.
A special budget has been allocated to equip the campuses in line with the vision of the university and upgrade existing standards.
