Woman sues man for obscene remarks, alleging harm from verbal abuse
Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Court for Family, Civil and Administrative Cases has ordered a man to pay a woman Dh25,000 in compensation, plus costs and fees, in a case involving insults and verbal abuse.
Court documents show that the woman had filed a lawsuit alleging she was harmed when the defendant hurled obscene and offensive remarks at her. The Court of First Instant initially acquitted the man, but the Public Prosecution appealed.
The appeals court convicted him, imposing a Dh2,000 fine, a ruling later upheld by the Court of Cassation. The woman then sought Dh60,000 in damages for both material and moral harm, along with litigation costs.
In its verdict, the court found Dh25,000 to be adequate compensation for the emotional and moral harm caused by the defendant’s actions. On the claim for material damages, the court said there was no evidence that the woman had suffered financial loss because of the offence and therefore rejected that part of her request.
