Sharjah: Defending champions Royal were among the winners on the fourth night of the Second Sharjah Ramadan Football Championship (SRFC) being held at the Sharjah Sports Club.
Royal made their way past Al Bahri 3-0 to book their place in the quarter-finals and Al Hamriya secured a battling 2-1 win against Shabab Al Sharjah but it was Al Watania who came out firing on all cylinders as they sunk Al Burkan 10-1.
Ahmad Saif opened the scoring for Al Hamriya in the second minute before Omran Hassan equalised for Shabab Al Sharjah in the tenth minute as the two broke off tied 1-1 at half-time. In the second half, Humaid Tawakul put Al Hamriya ahead and then fell back to defend their lead. Shabab Al Sharjah came close to an equaliser but a Khalid Salah header missed an open goal.
Mohammad Al Mulla got things going for defending champions Royal with a spectacular strike in the very second minute against Al Bahri. In the fourth minute of the second half, Brazilian Alex Diaz made it 2-0 in favour of the defending champions and then Badr Saeed signed off in the tenth minute to complete a fine win for Royal.
Egypt’s Ahmad Abdul Kader scored four goals, while Spaniard Katella Perez and Abdullah Karmastahi added two apiece and Ahmad Al Hassani found the net once as Al Watania overwhelmed Al Burkan 10-1 in the third match. Nasser Saeed was the lone goal-scorer for Al Burkan, who have been left languishing at the bottom of the group.
Organised by Sharjah Sports Channel, the SRFC is drawing impressive crowds that have been cheering on the participating teams. Also making their presence felt on Friday were prominent Emirati footballers such as Al Wasl Club’s Esmail Rashid, Sharjah Club’s Abdul Aziz Al Anbari, Sharjah Club goalkeeper Mohammad Yousuf and Al Ahli playmaker Walid Hussain.
