Shooters fire UAE to first gold medal in Qatar

Doha: The UAE won their first gold medal of the 12th Arab Games here when their women's shooting team finished first in the 25m pistol competition with a total of 1,672 points on Wednesday.

Competing in the Rapid and Precision event, Shaikha Saeed Al Rumaithi shot a total of 560 (283 precision and 277 rapid) and Sumaya Al Meshaiei scored 559 (277 precision and 282 rapid), while Shamma Al Muahiri shot 553 (283 precision and 270 rapid) to secure the top prize.

Hosts Qatar won the silver with a total of 1,640, while Iraq won bronze with 1,517.
