Al Wathba event being held under directives of Shaikh Khalifa
Abu Dhabi: Under directives from President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and under the patronage of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Qasr Al Hosn Camel Race Festival will kick off on Saturday at Al Wathba racetrack.
The event is a continuation of the Qasr Al Hosn Festival, which was held in February to celebrate 250 years of Qasr Al Hosn Fort’s prestigious history and to bring to life the unique traditions that make the UAE what it is today by showcasing the talent, skills and culture of its people.
Prizes at the event include 161 vehicles and generous cash rewards for winners in all categories of the forthcoming race.
Shaikh Sultan Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President and President of the Association, lauded the generous support extended by Shaikh Khalifa to sports and sportspersons. He stressed that his support contributed to the boom the UAE enjoys in all spheres, including sports. This generous support builds on the legacy of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan who was very interested in traditional sports, which represents an essential part of the nation’s history.
He also hailed the support extended to traditional sports by Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed.
Organising this event, he added, sends the clear message that the nation’s heritage continues to have a powerful presence in the modern age and that the UAE people cling to their authentic traditions while building a modern and advanced state.
