In the latest episode of WWE RAW, it was officially confirmed that longtime rivals John Cena and CM Punk will clash in a high-stakes match at the upcoming Night of Champions.

Cena opened the show with a fiery promo addressing the buzz around R-Truth’s surprising return. Reflecting on the events at Money in the Bank, Cena admitted he wasted his breath trying to save R-Truth, dismissing him as a “sideshow comedian.” He claimed R-Truth’s biggest claim to fame was merely playing a version of John Cena himself. Despite fans chanting Truth’s name, Cena emphasised that with only 18 dates left on his retirement tour, he was focused on finding a “real fighter.”

CM Punk didn’t hesitate to answer the call, stepping into the ring to accept Cena’s challenge for what could be one of Cena’s final matches.

The intense back-and-forth between the two legends culminated in Punk challenging Cena to one last title match, which Cena accepted, setting the stage for Night of Champions.

Just as the moment settled, Seth Rollins made a dramatic entrance, holding the Money in the Bank briefcase. Rollins reminded both Cena and Punk that he holds the ultimate advantage, with the contract ready to be cashed in on the new champion at any time.

The night was full of more exciting twists, especially for Gunther, who reclaimed the World Heavyweight Championship, bringing an end to Jey Uso’s 52-day title run on an intense night at WWE Raw in Phoenix, Arizona.

The highly anticipated match served as a rematch of their WrestleMania 41 showdown, with both superstars entering the ring just days after competing at Money in the Bank. Jey, still recovering from that bout, was visibly targeted by Gunther, who focused his offense on Jey’s injuries throughout the fight. The decisive moment came when Gunther locked in a sleeper hold, the same move Jey had used to defeat him on Night 1 of WrestleMania 41. This time, it was Gunther who came out on top — and Jey was knocked out, forcing the referee to call for the bell., a shocking twist unfolded during the main event tag team match between John Cena & Logan Paul and Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso. Cena and Paul appeared poised for victory when Cena struck Rhodes with his championship belt. However, before he could capitalize, a hooded figure emerged, attacking Cena and revealing himself to be R-Truth. Just days prior, R-Truth had announced his departure from WWE, making his unexpected return all the more dramatic. His interference allowed Rhodes to deliver the Cross Rhodes to Cena, securing the win for his team

With the victory, Gunther becomes the first two-time holder of the World Heavyweight Championship since its reintroduction in May 2023. He originally captured the title at SummerSlam 2024 and held it for 258 days before losing to Jey earlier this year.

Jey Uso, who had successfully defended the title against Logan Paul just two nights prior, now steps out of the title spotlight — at least for the moment.

Triple H, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, acknowledged the dramatic title change on X (formerly Twitter), writing:

“Capped off a huge weekend for @WWE with a main event n #WWERAW. Respect to Main Event (truly) Jey and congratulations to our NEW World Heavyweight Champion @Gunther_AUT.”
