Modern boat sailing regatta concludes at Al Gharbia Watersports Festival
Abu Dhabi: Emirates Heritage Club swept the top three places in the Laser 4.7 class after the final stage of the modern boat sailing regatta took place at the Al Gharbia Watersports Festival on Sunday.
On the fourth day of the fifth running of the festival at Al Mirfa beach, Hamood Salem Al Zaidi secured first place in the class, with club-mates Saif Ebrahim Al Naimie second and Suhail Al Ghailani third.
In the Laser Radial race, first and second places went to Saeed Al Zaidi and Saif Al Hamadi, both of the Emirates Heritage Club, with Maximilian Burger from the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club coming third. In the Laser Stand competition, Adel Khaled of the Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club was the winner, with second and third place going to Dubai Offshore Sailing Club’s Daniel Kilsby and John Woolcock respectively.
Harry Bone Knell from Dubai Offshore Sailing Club won the Optimist Overall class race ahead of club-mate Oscar Lindley Smith and Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club’s Oliver Hill who was third. The Optimist junior class was won by Jentl Manemaaijer of Dubai Offshore Sailing Club ahead of Al Hamriya Club duo Ebrahim Saif Allah Refai and Abdullah Nooh Al Beloushi.
Finally, in the Open Two-Manned Dinghy class, the top three were all of Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club, with first, second and third places going to Ron Heyselaar, Timothy Richards and Ruth Wallis respectively.
After the races, Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, the Festival Manager, Abdullah Mohammad Al Obaidli, Board Member of the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club, and Majid Ateeq Al Muhairi, Chief Executive Officer of the Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club, presented the trophies and medals.
