The former World No.1 hasn't played since the 2024 Open Championship

Tiger Woods has announced his return to competitive golf, confirming he will participate in this week’s Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines.
It will be the 49-year-old’s first appearance on the PGA Tour since last year’s Open Championship at Royal Troon, where he last teed it up in a competitive event.
The tournament, hosted by Woods, will also be his first regular tour event in over a year. His previous attempt at the Genesis Invitational in 2024 ended in withdrawal due to ongoing health challenges.
Last year, Woods played just 11 competitive rounds, aiming for a one-tournament-per-month schedule before his plans were derailed by another back surgery after The Open.
In December, Woods chose not to compete in the Hero World Challenge, citing a lack of readiness. His decision to return suggests he now feels prepared to compete again at the highest level.
This year’s Genesis Invitational takes on added significance, as Woods mourns the recent passing of his mother, Kultida, a loss he announced last week.
Originally set to take place at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, the tournament was relocated to Torrey Pines in San Diego due to the devastating wildfires that swept through California in January.
The move brings Woods back to a venue where he has enjoyed remarkable success. Over his illustrious career, the 15-time major winner has claimed victory at Torrey Pines eight times.
