Camero and Morton bank World Amateur Golf Ranking points with Order of Merit Championship victory

Dominic Morton and Jamie Camero were the big winners at the Emirates Golf Federation’s season-ending Order of Merit Championship, with the duo taking home the spoils in the Men’s and Ladies Division respectively.

Morton, who is heading to Odessa University in Texas this summer, started the final round of the 54-hole World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event three shots behind leader Viktor Kofod-Olsen, but drew level with the Junior Dubai Desert Classic champion after a closing 72 at Al Zorah Golf Club.

And it would be Morton who would emerge victorious after making birdie at the first extra hole to clinch his first WAGR title.

“I was pleased with my game – I was confident with my golf this week," said Morton.

"I have practised very hard over the last few weeks, and this is my first EGF WAGR tournament win.

“I am getting ready to go to Odessa University, Texas, on a golf scholarship in August – so it is great to cap this season off with a win.”

The Ladies Division was just as tight as the Men’s, with Camero also emerging victorious in a play-off after the 18-year-old and fellow UAE National Team player Intissar Rich were tied on 223 after 54 holes.

Camero held her her nerve to win on the second play-off hole in Ajman.

“I hit a lot of good shots, but my bad shots were not very good,” said Camero.

“I have a biology A-level exam tomorrow and it is important for me to do well for my personal pride.

“It is tough to fit in golf tournaments, practice and exams as well as revision. I am pleased with the win.”
