Ivan Lawson battled fierce blustery conditions and a sandstorm to card the best gross of 81 in the September UAE Golf Association (UGA) handicap medal at Jebel Ali and win Division A.
A windy day turned into a sandy nightmare for many as halfway through the round strong crosswinds reduced visibility and, on the tight tree-lined nine-hole layout, many players struggled to keep the ball in play against the elements.
Best nett in Division A (0-14 handicap) was recorded by Nigel Walker (10 handicap) with a fine 72.
Division B (handicap 15-28) was taken by Mukti Rai (16 handicap) on 38 stableford points with Richard Firth (22 handicap) just a point behind in second. Yevgenia Scott won the Ladies Division with a fine return of 37 stableford points while nearest the pin prizes went to Nick Pilott, Rosemary Turlik, Bernadette Kelly and Mark Clifton.
UGA medals are held each month at a different course and give UGA members who are not members of a golf club a chance to play competitive golf and keep up their handicaps.
