Amateurs win Dubai Golf Trophy

Dubai: The UAE’s top 16 amateurs beat their professional counterparts 19.5-12.5 to win the annual Ryder Cup-styled Dubai Golf Trophy for the first time in nine years at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club on Sunday.

The professionals took an early 4.5-3.5 lead in the foursomes but the amateurs fought back 6.5-1.5 in the fourballs and clinched the singles 9.5-6.5. It was only their third win in the 17-year history of the competition, which started in 2000.
