Shravan Khanna and Manish Sanwalka finished second in the event, which was played in a pair stableford format, while Adel Zarouni and Khalid Al Halyan took the third place.

Hassan Yazdi and Darvin Davidian, who were playing in the 13-year-old tournament for the first time, were fourth and the Robinson brothers, Andrew and David, fifth.

A total of 84 players, all wearing bright orange golf shirts and white caps courtesy of the sponsors, teed off at 1pm in "perfect weather for perfect golf".

The strong field also included six ladies.

David Robinson, who lives in the UK but is visiting his brother Andrew, said he "absolutely loves playing in the tournament".

Yazdi described the whole experience as "challenging".

"This was the first time I was playing at the Mongomerie course and I found it challenging, especially the sloppy greens that accounted for a number of three or four putts," he said. "But I thoroughly enjoyed overcoming this challenge and displaying the outcome of my hard efforts in training. His playing partner Davidian's post-event comments were equally enthusiastic.

"It was a day of fun, challenge, friendship and excitement and a great experience for me. I look forward to participating in the event next year."

At the prize distribution Duleep George, executive director of marketing and sales at Gulf News, thanked the players and The Montgomerie for making the event a success.

He also presented a memento to Patrick Wynn, tournament co-ordinator, in appreciation of his efforts.
