Marc Cucurella has once again grabbed attention, this time with a humorous but telling comment about Real Madrid.

The Chelsea defender joked that he would rather shave off his iconic curls than play for the Spanish giants. The remark came during a recent interview when he was asked to choose between keeping his famous hair or joining Real Madrid.

A light moment with a strong message

It started with a simple question about his hair. When asked if he would shave it off if Spain win the 2026 World Cup, Cucurella smiled and replied, “No, my hair is sacred.”

But the tone quickly changed when the interviewer gave him a different scenario. When asked to choose between cutting his hair or playing for Real Madrid, he did not hesitate. “Well, yes. I would shave my hair,” he said.

The response was clearly made in a light hearted manner, but it also reflected his background. As a La Masia graduate and former Barcelona player, the rivalry with Real Madrid still runs deep.

His hair and big promises

Cucurella’s hair has become part of his identity, and he has linked it to big moments before.

During Euro 2024, he promised to dye his hair red if Spain won the tournament. He kept his word after their victory, further adding to his popularity among fans.

Open to Barcelona return

Speaking in March 2026 ahead of Spain’s friendly against Egypt, Cucurella also addressed talk of a possible return to Barcelona.

He admitted that going back would be a difficult decision to turn down, given his history with the club. At the same time, he made it clear that such a move would depend on more than just football.

Family would play a major role in any decision, and he would need to sit down and discuss what is best for them before making a choice.

For now, though, he is not in a hurry. Cucurella said he would prefer to consider a return a few years later, as he remains focused on his current journey with Chelsea.

He also made it clear that he has no regrets about leaving Barcelona earlier in his career, as it helped him gain the minutes and confidence needed to reach his current level.

On Chelsea crisis

There are no concrete reports suggesting that Barcelona are actively working on a move for the left back.

Cucurella remains under contract with Chelsea until 2028. In the same interview, he also opened up about his frustration with the club’s instability, pointing to the frequent changes behind the scenes and the overall direction of the project.

He also touched on Chelsea’s model of signing young players, suggesting that constant changes and lack of continuity can make it difficult for players to settle and perform at their best.
