*A Star is Born: Ahmad Rabie of Al Jazira and the UAE Under-19 team proved that he is the biggest revelation this season with his dazzling ball control, defence-splitting passes and goals. He scored a double against Al Wahda to become his team’s hero.

*Evergreen: Esmail Mattar, the captain of Al Wahda and the UAE, showed that he still has much more to offer for his team. He led them — almost single-handedly — to a comeback in the capital derby, scoring one goal and creating all of the other three.

*The Best and the Worst: Al Jazira vs Al Wahda was the highlight of the week while Sharjah against Al Nasr was a flop.

*Miss of the Week: Al Hassan Saleh, the Al Nasr striker, was sent clear by Britt Holman in the 76th minute. He went past the Sharjah goalkeeper easily enough, then shot wide with the net at his mercy.

*Goal of the Week: Nawaf Mubarak, the Bani Yas midfielder, scored the week’s best goal with a curling free-kick, the Brazilian banana way, from 25 metres to seal the points for his team against Emirates.

*Oscar of the Week: Nominees Salem Saaed of Bani Yas and Wanderley Sousa of Emirates, both of whom dived to get a penalty, faking injury. Wanderley succeeded in deceiving referee Mohammad Abdul Karim while Saeed got a yellow card.

* Advice of the Week: Goes to Esmail Al Hammadi of Al Ahli. You are playing your best game... concentrate more on football and less on play-acting.
