Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has suspended general secretary Alex Soosay following allegations he ordered a cover-up during an investigation into the organisation in 2012.

In April, local newspaper The Malay Mail claimed it obtained a video from July 2012 that showed AFC financial director Bryan Kuan Wee Hong telling a Fifa investigator that Soosay asked that any incriminating evidence connecting him to wrongdoing under disgraced former president Mohammad Bin Hammam be hidden.

In a statement on its website, the AFC said: “A video statement conducted as part of a Fifa investigation was passed to media recently, and the AFC has now been able to verify its authenticity.”

Deputy general secretary Windsor John will take over in the meantime.
