Dh11m allotted to honour UAE's sporting dignitaries

The General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare (GAYSW) and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) have allotted Dh11 million to honour UAE sports dignitaries who served and supported the country and its champions.

The General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare (GAYSW) and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) have allotted Dh11 million to honour UAE sports dignitaries who served and supported the country and its champions.

The felicitation will be held next Saturday at the Dubai Grand Hayat under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry.

This was announced at a press conference held yesterday at the Grand Hayat with the attendance of Sultan Saqr Al Suwaidi, General Secretary of GAYSW and Ebrahim Abdul Malek, the NOC General Secretary. The felicitation ceremony will involve 245 persons.

The list of dignitaries:

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum for receiving the Sports and Charity prize from the International Olympic Committee.

Shaikh Butti Al Maktoum President of NOC in 1981.

Rashid Bin Humaid, first Minister of Sports and Youth in 1971. Dr Abdullah Omran Taryam, Minister of Youth in 1976. Dr Saeed Abdullah Salman, President of the Supreme Council of Youth and Sports (SCYS) 1983.

Faraj Fadhel Al Mazrouei, President of SCYS in 1986. Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer, President SCYS, in 1989. Shaikh Faisal Al Qasimi, Minister of Youth and Sports in 1990. Dr Ali Abdul Aziz Al Sharhan, President of GAYSW in 1999.

Saeed Bin Naser, Under-Secretary Ministry of Sports and Youth in 1971. Ali Abdullah Al Nouman Under-Secretary Ministry of Youth in 1976. Ahmad Bu Hussain, Under-Secretary SCYS in 1980. Sultan Saqr Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the NOC founding board. The honouring will also include Shaikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, Shaikha Maitha Bint Mohammad Al Maktoum, Shaikh Ahmad Bin Hashr Al Maktoum, Mohammad Khalif Al Qubaisi and all those who have achieved outstanding success and won medals for the UAE in the GCC, Arab, Asian and various international sporting meets.

The felicitation will also include other sporting personalities.
