Season 4 moved forward to avoid T20 World Cup clash; launches on December 2
Dubai: Fireworks, flags, and festive fervour — the DP World ILT20 is moving into celebration mode. Kicking off on Eid Al Etihad (UAE National Day) this December, Season 4 of the Gulf region’s biggest T20 league will blend cricket with the country’s festive spirit, giving Dubai Capitals the perfect stage to begin their title defence.
The six-team, 34-match tournament has shifted from its traditional January—February slot and will now run from December 2 to January 4, aligning with Eid Al Etihad and Christmas — giving fans the chance to watch their stars in action during the holiday period. The calendar adjustment comes in response to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in February—March 2026.
Khalid Al Zarooni, Chairman of ILT20 and Vice-Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, said:
“We are delighted to confirm that the DP World International League T20 Season 4 will commence on Eid Al Etihad (UAE National Day), which is one of the most important days on the UAE calendar.
"It is a real honour for us to join the nation in the Eid Al Etihad celebrations with the launch of the region’s biggest T20 league on the same day.”
The third edition of the league, held earlier this year, set a high bar — both in terms of quality and engagement. Fans enjoyed a fiercely contested tournament that drew strong viewership across broadcast and digital platforms.
David White, CEO of DP World ILT20, explained the reasoning behind the move:
“Following extensive discussions with all our stakeholders, we believe the December—January window is ideal for Season 4. The T20 World Cup begins in early February, so it was important to conclude the league well in advance, giving players time to prepare for national duty.
"At the same time, the holiday period gives our teams better access to top talent from around the world.”
Dubai Capitals claimed their maiden title with a thrilling last-over victory against the Desert Vipers in front of a packed house at Dubai International Stadium in February this year.
“Season 3 was a big success with outstanding numbers and top-level cricket,” White added. “We are now fully focused on making an even bigger impact with Season 4.”
The previous season featured an impressive roster of international stars, including Nicholas Pooran, Sam Curran (Player of the Tournament — red belt), Shai Hope (most runs — green belt), Fazalhaq Farooqi (highest wicket-taker — white belt), Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Jason Holder, Alex Hales, David Warner, Shimron Hetmyer, and many more.
With the tournament moving to a more festive window, organisers are expecting packed venues and a vibrant atmosphere to match the fireworks on the field. For the Dubai Capitals, who clinched the trophy in dramatic fashion last season, the stage is set for another memorable campaign — this time under holiday lights and patriotic cheers.
As the Gulf’s premier cricket league continues to grow in stature, Season 4 promises a dazzling mix of sport and celebration.
