Dubai: Indian cricketer Rinku Singh continues to make headlines, both on and off the field. Known for his clutch performances and finishing flair, the 27-year-old left-hander has earned comparisons to legendary skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Currently part of India’s Twenty20 squad for the five-match series against England, Rinku Singh is reportedly embarking on a new chapter in his personal life. According to Indian media reports, Rinku Singh recently got engaged to Priya Saroj, a parliamentarian and daughter of three-time MP Tufani Saroj. The couple is expected to tie the knot soon.

Priya Saroj, 25, is among the youngest members of Parliament, representing Uttar Pradesh’s Machhlishahr constituency under the Samajwadi Party banner. Before her political career, Saroj was a Supreme Court lawyer and holds degrees from Delhi University and Amity University in Noida. She also studied at the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute in New Delhi.

Kolkata Knight Riders' Rinku Singh has been a key member of the Indian Twenty20 team.

While reports suggest that the engagement has taken place, Priya’s father, Tufani Saroj, has dismissed the claims as rumours. However, other media outlets quote him as acknowledging a wedding proposal from Rinku’s family.

Title-winning campaign

Rinku Singh’s life mirrors the rags-to-riches stories synonymous with the Indian Premier League (IPL). Hailing from humble beginnings, the middle-order batter once worked as a domestic helper to support his debt-laden family. His fortunes turned in 2018 when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured his services for Rs8 million at the IPL auction.

Since then, Rinku Singh has become an indispensable part of the KKR squad, playing a pivotal role in their title-winning campaign in 2024. His consistency and grit earned him a retention deal worth Rs130 million, solidifying his place among the league’s elite.

Rinku Singh’s personal and professional journeys stand as a testament to perseverance, making his next chapter all the more anticipated.
