Photos: Real sportsmen do cry - when heroes shed tears of joy

Pumas coach Mario Ledesma was unapologetic for the tears he and his team shed after their maiden victory over the All Blacks last weekend and said that emotion was an integral part of the make-up of sport. The Pumas stunned the rugby world with their 25-15 victory over New Zealand and there was a huge outpouring of emotion on the pitch afterwards.

It was the same story at Augusta, where the steely Dustin Johnson, who had held his nerve for four days to clinically clinch his first Masters, broke down in tears at the Green Jacket presentation.

Of course, there was the visibly emotional Lewis Hamilton in Turkey after the Mercedes driver clinched his record seventh Formula One drivers' title.

And there were more glassy eyes when Ryan Christie relived Scotland's Euro 2020 qualifying final victory over Serbia, to take the Scots to their first major finals since 1998.

So it was quite a week for tough guys showing their emotional side. Here is a look back at some more famous moments of the past:

From one Scot to another. Andy Murray famously melted the hearts of a nation when he sobbed in defeat to Roger Federer at Wimbledon in 2012. But only a month later it was tears of joy as he clinched Olympic gold for Team GB at the same venue.

Golfing great Tiger Woods has been seen sobbing after winning a few of his many, many major titles. but the one that sticks out is victory in the 2006 Open, as the outpouring was all the more poignant following the death of Tiger's father and mentor Earl.

The beginning of an iconic era in sport began with a weepy moment when Michael Jordan got his hands on a first NBA title with the Chicago Bulls in 1991.

Another world-beater who has a knack for sobbing is tennis iron man Roger Federer, but we can excuse him a wee tear in 2009 when he clinched the French Open to complete his career Grand Slam.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Euro 2016 final began will tears of turmoil as he limped out of the game injured after only 25 minutes. But elation was the name of the game at the final whistle as Portugal defeated France in extra-time to give Ronaldo his first major international honour.

And there was hardly a dry eye in the whole India XI after they clinched the ICC World Cup in 2011.

One of the most memorable - and sustained - tear-fests was when Bubba 'Blubba' Watson claimed his first of his two Masters titles in 2012. An outpouring like no other began on the 18th green, continued to the presentation of the Green Jacket and well beyond. He famously began sobbing again at the pre-2013 press conference as he recalled his triumph.
