The Tar Barrel Festival is a New Year celebration that dates back to 1858. The festival involves a procession of 45 people carrying burning barrels filled with tar, sawdust, kindling and paraffin on their heads. Shortly before midnight the participants return to the village square to light a bonfire with their burning barrels.
