Look: World famous Dal Lake in Kashmir is frozen over. Exclusive pictures of little boats breaking ice to float

The boulevard that runs along Dal Lake’s shoreline is lined with Mughal era gardens, parks, houseboats and hotels. Right now there is snow and ice and an otherworldly feel to the place.

Shikaras are little wooden boats found on Dal Lake and other water bodies of Srinagar in Kashmir. Here in this file shot a Shikara is caught somewhere in the middle of the Dal Lake as large sections of the water body freeze over.

Small rivulets and streams connecting the interior parts of Dal Lake were covered with thick layer of frozen ice sheets as cold conditions prevailed in Srinagar with temperature plummeting to minus 3 degree Celsius.

Hazratbal, Kashmir. Moderate snow has been predicted over middle and higher reaches particularly over north, north-western, central parts of Kashmir in the next few days. There may also be rain at isolated to scattered places in the valley. (File)

Srinagar, Kashmir. The weather system in Kashmir is forecast to drop temperatures as much as 5 degrees below normal across most of the valley, and could produce blizzard conditions in some higher reaches. Parts of major water bodies have already frozen over.

A thick layer of ice has settled over the lakes, making it difficult for fishermen to go out there but a few little boats, braved the chilly conditions and were seen breaking ice in the Dal Lake.
