Sushant Singh Rajput case: Bollywood stars react to Supreme Court verdict

When it came to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and investigations, the majority of Bollywood stars maintained a distance from the issue. But they came slowly out of the woodwork on August 19 as soon as the Supreme Court in India directed the CBI to handle the investigations and take charge instead of the Mumbai Police.

Akshay Kumar was one of the first few actors to hail the decision. In the last two months, Rajput’s family, friends and select media outlets have been running a relentless campaign demanding CBI to intervene. Mumbai Police had earlier claimed that Rajput had committed suicide, but many did not believe that the actor could take his own life.

Rajput was found hanging at his residence in Mumbai on June 14 and his unexpected demise has triggered an avalanche of debates about the toxic working culture in Bollywood and how certain gangs in Bollywood smoke out outsider talents like Rajput. His girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty has also been accused off abetting his suicide and a case has been slapped by Rajput’s father against her. Here’s a look at the reactions from the stars that emerged today right after the landmark Supreme Court decision:
