Mother’s Day: Amitabh Bachchan shares rare photos of mum Teji

As a tribute for Mother’s Day, Bollywood veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan shared rare photos of his mother. Teji Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who died in December 2007. The images were a treat for fans of the star, who shared a glimpse into his mother’s wedding photos and childhood pictures of his own with his parent.

Wedding photo: Bachchan shared a solo portrait of Teji Bachchan taken on her wedding day, which hangs in his room. “Her marriage photograph .. it’s the image I possess in my room and in the remembrance of her with Babuji’s in another,” penned Bachchan on his blog.

Childhood portrait: In a throwback to the age-old family studio shoots, Bachchan also shared one of himself with his mother, which was taken in Allahbad, where the actor spent his childhood. “Perhaps a first conscious moment of what a photograph means for me .. never ever thought it would become a life line - pictures !! that bush shirt was special .. very ahead of all the fashion in those days .. but Ma had it made .. her aesthetics were always supreme [sic],” wrote Bachchan. The second child appears to be his brother Ajitabh.

Taking blessings: A third image that Bachchan shared appears to be taken during a festival. While the actor himself is unclear when the picture was taken, he reminisces that it may have been his own wedding day.

Returning home from the hospital: A particularly telling picture is one where Bachchan is seen returning home after his stint in the hospital following his near-death experience on the sets of ‘Coolie’. On August 2, 1982, Bachchan had a near fatal accident on the sets of ‘Coolie’ while shooting a fight sequence with actor Puneet Issar. The stunt went wrong and Bachchan sustained severe injuries. He was taken to a hospital in Mumbai where he was declared clinically dead for a few minutes. It took months for the actor to recover. The picture that Bachchan shared shows his mother welcoming him home, with the actor writing: “Returning home to Prateeksha after the Coolie accident recovery from Breach Candy .. August 1982.”

Firm favourite: What Bachchan described as his best photo with his mother, the proud son wrote: “My most favourite photograph with Maa .. at Allahabad , at a close friends’ place .. the occasion .. a formal lunch for the visiting Chinese delegation .. that suit and tie specially made for the day .. !!”
