In Pictures: Samsung does well to keep latest Galaxy Fold and Flip prices steady

Samsung is keeping the ‘fold’ and ‘flip’ mometum growing nice and fast, and making sure to keep the latest device retail prices steady. This, despite the still high material and shipping costs involved.

The new Fold 4, about the size of a notepad and opens like one, and Flip 4, which is square when closed and opens out to a regular smartphone size, come with a suite of incremental upgrades.

The Fold 4 starts at Dh6,849, and will come with storage sizes of 256 gigabytes, 512GB and one terabyte — the last of which is offered exclusively on Samsung's website. The model is available in Graygreen, Phantom Black, Beige and Burgundy colours.

Users can fully customize the Flip4 inside and out, with Galaxy Themes on both Cover and Main Screen with custom fonts, icons and designs. The Flip 4 starts at Dh3,849, and will come in three storage sizes — 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. The model is available in Bora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold, Blue colours.

The company benefited from its aggressive pricing with record sales of its foldable lineup since then and has stated its ambition to bring the category into the mainstream.

Samsung opens pre-orders on Wednesday and will have its new foldables in stores August 26.

This year's Fold has a 45 per cent more durable main display with minimized bezels, a slimmer hinge and upgraded cameras. on the back and under the display, Samsung said. Responding to user requests, the company upgraded the battery on the smaller Flip and added a larger max storage option of 512GB.

The smartphone sports a 50MP wide lens and 30X Space Zoom lens camera. A variety of camera modes, including the larger Zoom map activated on Capture View Mode, Dual Preview, and Rear Cam Selfie ,are custom-built.

Fold 4 is the first device to ship with Android 12L, a special version created by Google for large-screen experiences, including foldables.

Samsung partnered with Meta (formerly Facebook) to launch FlexCam- a feature to shoot hands-free video at various angles by partially folding the phone to activate the camera. Not just that, Flip4 – Samsung’s compact clamshell smartphone - ‘is crafted to go truly hands-free’, the smartphone major said in its website. The latest smartphone allows users to make calls, reply to texts and event unlock the car from the gadget’s cover screen.

This year's disruptions to logistics, production and materials supply have pushed tech companies like Meta to increase pricing, but Samsung is maintaining the same levels as last year.

The company sold about 6 million foldable devices last year and is looking for a ‘breakthrough with foldable phones as low-end phones sales are slumping’.

There is more. The Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro – the newest addition to the Galaxy Watch lineup has a skin temperature sensor, an improved glass curvature for more accurate health readings and Google services like Assistant and Maps.

Watch 5 is equipped with Samsung’s BioActive Sensor that enhances digital health monitoring. First introduced on the Galaxy Watch4 series, the BioActive Sensor uses a single unique chip that combines three health sensors – Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart Signal and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis

It's rated to last for 50 hours on a charge and has a pricier Pro version that can go as long as 80 hours, according to Samsung. The watch will be available in Black Titanium and Gray Titanium.

Samsung also launched new earbuds series - Galaxy Buds2 Pro. The smartphone major claims to provide ‘the most immersive wireless audio experience’ with a compact design.

The new earbuds comes with a with Hi-Fi 24bit Audio, which offers high-dynamic range and crystal-clear resolution of every musical note. Users can now find misplaced Buds2 Pro with SmartThings Find option.
