In light of Monday’s Iowa caucuses, Twitter users turned to social media to share thoughts about the 2016 presidential campaign using the hashtag #ThisYearsElectionIsAlotLike.
The hashtag showed what people where expecting from the US elections. The hashtag was used to express optimism, pessimism, hope, fear, for saying that it’s time for change and a concern that change has gone too far. While humour was the tool used, the prevalent theme was despair.
@MaiDindu: “#ThisYearsElectionIsALotLike awakening to the reality of #WhiteGenocide.”
@MattRodger: “#ThisYearsElectionIsAlotLike ‘The tortoise and the hare’.”
@TheWoollyArmy: “Vote me in and I promise to remove ALL #LLAMAS from our shores... #DonaldAlpacaYourBags #ThisYearsElectionIsAlotLike”
@cassandra17lina: “#ThisYearsElectionIsALotLike what happens when ‘obstruction’ is your only strategy.”
