ABU DHABI POLICE’S CRACKDOWN ON CYBERCRIMINALS A REASSURING MEASURE: It was announced on Monday that Abu Dhabi Police returned Dh21 million worth of funds over the last seven months to victims of phone scams and online fraud. A total of 1,740 cases of cybercrime were reported to authorities in the UAE during this period. Major Mohammed Al Aryani, Head of the Anti-Fraud Section at Abu Dhabi Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate, said: “We were able to stop cyber fraud in 80 to 90 per cent of cases, ever since we began coordinating our efforts with banks.” These are very heartening figures indeed and will go a long way in instilling confidence among those who conduct online transactions legally. This also comes as further proof of the stupendous work being done by the UAE’s police forces across all the emirates in order to safeguard the interests of all residents and visitors. While Abu Dhabi and the UAE authorities are doing their best to keep all of us safe from cybercriminals, it is incumbent upon us community members to do our bit and stay vigilant at all times in order to avoid being trapped and cheated through online fraud.
