UBS POSTS RECORD BREAKING RESULTS: Zurich-based multinational investment bank UBS Group posted record quarterly profit driven by emergency acquisition of its rival, Credit Suisse. This $29 billion gain stems from the accounting difference between the purchase price of Credit Suisse and its actual balance sheet value. UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti is overseeing one of the largest global finance mergers, forcing 3,000 job cuts in Switzerland alone, with more globally. Despite challenges, UBS now manages over $5 trillion in client assets and is Europe's most highly valued major bank. The full integration of Credit Suisse's Swiss unit is set for 2025. GREENER LIGHTING: The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has undertaken a significant and commendable initiative by replacing 2,000 traditional lighting units with energy-efficient LED lights. The six-month-long project on Airport and Al Ittihad roads involved re-engineering the lighting units to integrate sustainable, eco-friendly, and highly efficient LED lights. Additionally, these upgraded LED lamps provide superior brightness and colour precision, enhancing nighttime visibility and road safety for motorists. This not only extends the lifetime of assets but also contributes to substantial energy savings. This transition aligns with RTA's vision and Dubai's environmental commitment. SRK IN DUBAI: Shah Rukh Khan's visit to Dubai yesterday to unveil the trailer of his upcoming film ‘Jawan’ underlined his enduring star power. Thousands of ardent fans gathered at the Burj Khalifa on August 31 to catch a glimpse of their beloved matinee idol. Sporting a red jacket, black T-shirt, and jeans despite the heat, Khan's presence exuded charisma. With a wry smile, he quipped, "It's very hot in this red jacket that I told everyone to wear... But enjoy the trailer." But the highlight was when he delivered a dialogue from his new film about safeguarding his son's dignity—a sentiment connected to real-life events. The lines where he delivers a warning that his on-screen enemies should talk to the father, before attacking his son was met with resounding cheers. Ever since his elder son Aaryan got embroiled in a drugs-on-cruise case, Khan has been silent about the issue. But his reticence and his unwillingness to be drawn into any controversy seems to have dissipated yesterday in Dubai.
