Describing her sound as London roads, crossed wires, make believe and cheated hearts, Polly Scattergood is the whacky dream-come-true. Small yet possessing quite a presence, she gets her message across in her publicity photos: there is more to me than meets the eye. Despite the unassuming pose, her gaze is one of brilliant intensity and undoubtedly stems from the same source her songs do.

Her lofty and ethereal voice floods the senses, leading to a complete captivation of one's being. Dramatic lyrics and high octaves characterise her songs, which when combined with her quirky Bjork-like style of singing make her a truly and wonderfully unique artist: a rarity in today's world.

Her first single Nitrogen Pink took the music world by storm with music website NME describing her as "massive" and the Guardian as "Just fantastic".

With an electro-pop feel and a beautiful melody that becomes increasingly urgent as the song progresses, Nitrogen Pink makes you want to shed all your worries and run off in search of your destiny.

With Scattergood listing her influences as David Bowie, Elton John and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, it is easy to see where she gets her kooky edge from.

Her most recently released single I Hate the Way speaks of an emotional turmoil yet a love that manages to penetrate it. The song possesses an intensity that practically shouts mad genius; once you've heard it, it's hard to imagine life without it.

Packaged with the single is her increasingly popular Poem Song that could send shivers down the most stoic amongst us with its sweet but stark lyrics. Released on September 22, it is being followed up with numerous live gigs in London. Already gathering quite the live cult following, Scattergood is one singer to watch out for. She plans to release her first album at the start of 2009. To check the lyrics of the songs log on to
