A traditional majlis with dates, local handicrafts and a henna lady had been set up at the entrance to welcome visitors at the annual Charity Bazaar organised by the Dubai International Women's Club (DIWC) on Saturday.

Variety

But more than 100 stalls set up in the Godolphin Ballroom at Jumeirah Emirates Towers featured a variety of products from around the world such as candles from Thailand, handicrafts from Indonesia, shawls from India, garments from Pakistan, glassware from Cambodia and aromatherapy cosmetics from New Zealand and Germany.

Other items on sale included handmade soaps, jewellery, paintings, home accessories and Christmas decorations. The DIWC had also invited several charities to sell their promotional items at the bazaar.

Help victims of abuse

While the K9 stall offered some cute cuddly dogs, the Ajman-based Al Ihsan Charity was selling a variety of items made by underpriveleged women.

Proceeds from the bazaar will be donated to the Dubai Women's and Children's Charity Foundation that help victims of domestic violence and abuse.

The DIWC also raised funds for charity through its lucky dip stall that offered gifts ranging from a microwave oven to crystalware donated by DIWC members and through the sale of designer shoes and bags donated by Candella.

Light up a smile

Ramadan activities at Wafi City include encouraging shoppers to help people in need. It has teamed up with Red Crescent and the donations collected from activities will go to UAE orphans.

The key activity for this month is the oasis pool, where if you donate Dh10, you will get the chance to light up your own fanoos and watch it sail.

“The oasis pool attracts customers from different nationalities and all ages to raise as much money as possible during this month whilst enjoying lighting their own fanoos and watching it sail,'' said Victoria Smith, marketing director of MKM.
