Bloch comes heavy on short skirts... and boots

He is one of Hollywood's premiere stylists and his advice has been sought after by almost every fashion reality show on television, including Tyra Banks' America's Next Top Model. With three signature fashion lines in the works, a book and a new TV show, Bloch has more than enough to keep him busy. We were also impressed that he was up-to-date about Dubai's fledgling fashion week and expressed a desire to check out the local talent.

What's been the highlight of fashion week so far?

I've just come from Carolina Herrera and it was just gorgeous. The colours were so rich and vibrant and her use of draping is going to be a real trend of the season.

What happening in the world of Phillip Bloch at the moment?

I am writing a book The Shopping Diet. It's due to be handed in this week. I had the idea for it a few years ago but it was when the economy went down that tubes that everyone became interested.

What's the one item everyone should banish from their wardrobe?

Cowboy boots! Oh - and really short skirts. Let's face it, you have to be of an age and shape to pull a short skirt off.

What your tip to surviving the credit crunch in style?

I think it's about finding something that's really personal to you. It's not about having one good black suit, a black turtleneck, or black skirt. A friend of mine recently brought a great plaid skirt and it was a really great investment, because she could wear it with a lot of colours.
