Audi was among the first in our market to downsize engines in their premium offerings with the 3.0-litre TFSI replacing the 4.2-litre V8 lump in the flagship Q7 SUV.

It later followed this up with a V6 engine for the A8 luxury saloon. And now, Audi has released a new entry-level engine here in the mid-size A6 saloon.

Putting out 180bhp and 320Nm of torque, the four-cylinder, 2.0-litre TFSI petrol unit sends power to the front wheels through a continuously variable multitronic tranny. The 0- 100kph dash is dispatched in 8.3 seconds, topping out at 226kph.

Making use of Audi’s energy recovery system and stop-start function, the new engine will consume just 6.4 litres-per-100km while emitting just 149g/km of CO2.

In the GCC the Audi A6 2.0 TFSI will be available with a starting price of Dh164,000 and like the other models in the line-up, comes with five years service and three years warranty as standard.

The A6 puts out 180bhp and 320Nm of torque.
