Abu Dhabi: A Gulf News distributor, known to be an honest employee, returned Dh9,000 he found in a parking lot in the capital.

Naveed Ahmad, a Pakistani, was waiting for his nephew when he found Dh9,000 behind the Crowne Plaza parking lot at around 10 in the evening. “I had never seen so much money before,” he said.

Ahmad handed over the cash to the Khalidiya Police Department. “The Khalidiya police told me I will get a reward and medal after some time,” he said.

“Despite the fact his mother was due for surgery and he badly needed cash, Naveed did not think for a second of keeping the money and using it for his mother’s surgery. His honesty should be appreciated ... the entire Gulf News team is proud of him,” Saleem Parkar, account group manager, Gulf News, Abu Dhabi, said in a statement.

This is not the first time Ahmad has come across valuables and reported it. Two years ago, he found three gold chains and returned them to the police. He was issued a receipt stating he had submitted the chains.
