Shawarma is the ultimate comfort foods for millions of Arabs across the world. These claims have been reinforced by many of my friends who spent their whole life in the UAE. They will very clearly say that the favourite shawarma sandwiches were always from Sharjah. Al Fallah: One of the top shawarma spots in Sharjah. Famous for serving delicious juicy rolls for a very good price, many Sharjawis flock to this place at all times of the day or night. Even after midnight, you will most likely find a queue of people waiting to get their hands on the shawarma there. Location: Al Hikma Building, Al Majaz, Sharjah. Cost: Dh6 for a shawarma sandwich. Timings: Open daily from 12pm to 3am.

Al Mallah: One of the most loved shawarma spots in Sharjah. Al Mallah is a popular choice for Shawarma lovers. The staff are really friendly and the service is great. They also serve a mean hummus that will blow your taste buds away. Dip your shawarma into it if you want a special treat. Location Beside Ansari Exchange, Al Wahda Street, Cost Dh8 for a chicken shawarma sandwich. Timings: Daily from 6.30am to 3am

Fresh Chicken King: If you're craving a quick Shawarma, then Fresh Chicken King is a great spot, since the multiple locations take the pressure off. They make flavorful and delicious shawarma for a good price, especially since you get a very generous portion. Locations: Opposite Gold Centre on Al Qasmia Street in Al Ghubaiba, Al Majaz and Al Sharq Street. Cost: Dh12 for a shawarma sandwich. Timings: Saturday to Thursday from 12pm to 1am and Friday from 1pm to 1am.

Aroos Damascus: The name means the doll of Damascus and it is pretty famous in Sharjah for serving incredible Shawarma. The quality of the ingredients is really high and well-loved for many living in or visiting Sharjah. They also serve a complimentary fresh salad bowl if you dine in. Location: King Abdul Aziz Street. Cost: Dh6 for a shawarma sandwich. Timings: Daily from 7am to 3am (Closed during Friday prayers for 1 hour)

Kreich: Most of the people working in the Kreich are Syrians, so you know, they know how to make a good quality shawarma with all the right flavours and spices. Their shawarma is served in Saj bread, however you can request that they make it in Lebanese bread as well. Location: Jamal Abdul Nasir Street, Al Majaz. Cost: Dh6 for a shawarma sandwich. Timings: Open Daily from 10am to 1am.
