Visiting Expo 2020 Dubai in November? Look forward to K-Pop concert, Diwali, Riverdance, WizKid and tango lessons

We ticked off the Red Arrows, Firdaus Orchestra, music from space, flamenco fiesta and so much more during the opening month of Expo 2020 Dubai. Now what? November has a lot to offer as well, so rest assured you have not missed out just yet. There’s the Irish ensemble sensation Riverdance, a heated series of chess matches, a K-Pop festival, and the list of diverse events goes on. Expo hosts over 60 of them daily. We’ve boiled that extensive listicle down to what we think you would whip out your calendars for – have a look:

Hammour House drop-in knitting – Held daily until November 8, from 10am to 6pm, this knitting workshop at the Hammour House teaches all ages how to finger weave sea creatures. Located next to The Opportunity Pavilion, the community art project is the perfect way for young visitors to gain some hands-on skills and learn about the UAE’s coral reefs.

Riverdance – For the entire month of November, the Irish ensemble wowing the world since 1994 will dare the Expo audience to keep still. Visitors strolling past not only get to enjoy 10-minute pop-up shows, but can learn to get their feet going in special masterclasses at the Sea, Earth, Sun and Al Wasl stages. The bigger venue, Jubilee Stage, is where you can catch the real deal in a nonstop 90-minute performance by the full team, put together especially for Expo 2020 Dubai.

Argentine tango lessons – If the Riverdance has gotten you into a rhythm, then why not tango? The Argentina Pavilion invites the world to learn the very moves that originated in the streets of Buenos Aires, so representative of the country’s culture and heritage. Join the crowd in a tango flash mob on these days: November 2 at 5 and 6pm on Sun Stage; November 5 at 7.30pm on Sun Stage; November 9 at 5 and 6pm on Earth Stage; November 11 at 8.30pm on Earth Stage; November 19 at 8.30pm on sun Stage; November 23 at 5 and 6pm on Earth Stage; November 26 at 8.30pm on Earth Stage; and November 30 at 5pm on Earth Stage and 8.30pm on Sun Stage.

Indian band Rooh – On the festive occasion of Diwali, jam along to the Dubai-based Indian band Rooh at the Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre on November 2 at 8.30pm.

Another Kind of Blue – Man meets technology meets dance – Netherlands-based dance group Another Kind of Blue (AKOB) will sway alongside suspended drones at Expo. Watch their ten-minute ‘Airman’ performance on November 3 at 3, 5 and 8pm in the Dubai Exhibition Centre.

Exposonix – Here’s a good throwback for the music lovers. Expo’s very own 16-piece band covers all your classic favourites from the 70’s to contemporary chart hits of today. Catch the official Expo 2020 band concert on the following dates: November 3 at 6pm on Jubilee Stage; November 4 at 7pm on Jubilee Stage; November 6 at 9pm at Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre; November 18 at 11pm at Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre; November 19 at 12am at Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre; November 21 at 7pm on Jubilee Stage; November 22 to 24 at 6pm on Jubilee Stage; November 25 at 5.45pm on Jubilee Stage; and November 27 at 10pm on Jubilee Stage.

Nigerian music concert – If singer CKay’s TikTok-famous ‘Love Nwantiti’ was your first venture into the vibrant Nigerian music scene, then you might want to calendar this concert for more. Hot young talents Buma Boy, WizKid (pictured), Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade are all touching down in Dubai to celebrate Nigeria’s national day on November 6. The performance will take place on the Jubilee Stage at 8pm.

Screening of movie ‘We Will Be Forgotten (El Olvido Que Seremos)’ – Shortlisted for the 2020 Cannes Film Festival line-up, ‘El Olvido Que Seremos’ is a Spanish movie that chronicles the life of a prominent human rights activist in the 1970s. Watch the special Expo screening at the Terra Auditorium at 7pm on November 7 and 14.

Punjabi musical fusion – Pakistan will bring its Punjabi melodies from six different regions in a musical evening on Earth Stage at 8.30 and 9.30pm, on November 11.

K-Pop in the Emirates 2021 – On November 12 at 5pm, Jubilee Stage will erupt in a spectacular tribute to Korean pop tunes. According to the hosting body Korean Cultural Centre, K-Pop fans can expect live performances by veteran boy group Highlight (pictured) and sensational K-drama OST soloist Punch. Later on in the evening, the centre’s official YouTube channel will stream a virtual concert at 8pm, featuring BTOB, Laboum and Luminous.

Infinite Nights with Nancy Ajram and Ragheb Alama – The Expo Infinite Nights series will return with two megastars from the Arab world. Performances by both Nancy Ajram and Ragheb Alama will be streamed live to millions from the concert venue Al Wasl Plaza at 10pm.

Largest Jiu-Jitsu Lesson – On November 15, with the help of the Brazilian Pavilion, Expo 2020 aims to break the UAE’s own world record for the largest jiu-jitsu lesson ever held. Watch more than 2,481 participants fill up the Jubilee Park at 4.30pm for a spectacular martial arts play and witness a record in the making.

Firdaus Orchestra – Expo 2020 and AR Rahman’s all-female musical ensemble will assemble twice this month on the Jubilee Stage. Catch them for a 60-minute concert on November 16 at 7pm, and then on November 20 at 3pm.

MyButterfly Kite Flying Event – A once-in-a-month event, the crowd will have the chance to fly their own kites and enjoy the pleasant outdoors at Al Forsan Park. Rush to the venue well before 4.30pm as capacity is limited on November 20.

Musicon Jam Session – Young visitors are going to love this one. Polish invention Musicon is an interactive musical instrument that lets kids compose their own pieces. Designer and musician Kamil Laszuk developed it with a child’s psychophysical and cognitive development in mind. Believe it or not, Musicon teaches the little ones math, coding and physics simply through music. Bring your kids to the Sea Stage for an educational jamming session on November 21 at 1.30, 2.30, 7.30 and 8.30pm.

World Chess Championship 2021 – Yes, this year’s chess champion will emerge from Expo 2020 grounds. Magnus Carlsen (left), the four-time world champion from Norway, will guard his reigning title from the winner of the Candidates Tournament, Russia's Ian Nepomniachtchi, at the Dubai Exhibition Centre. The series of 14 matches will commence on November 24 and wrap up on December 16.

Screening of movie ‘Son Rise’ – A screening of Hindi movie ‘Son Rise’ is going to mark the start of Orange the World campaign by the United Nations (UN). The movement brings awareness to gender violence against women, as highlighted in the critically acclaimed Indian film. Rally for the campaign at the Jubilee Stage at 7pm on November 26.
