‘Visaaranai’ goes to Venice film fest

It is the first Tamil feature to enter in a competitive category, says Dhanush

Actor Dhanush-produced Tamil thriller Visaaranai will be first film in the language to have its world premiere in the competition section of the upcoming at 72nd Venice International Film Festival.

The festival is scheduled to take place between September 2 and 15.

“#Visaaranai 2 premier at d 72nd Venice international film festival n Orizzonti competitive category. In the 72 years history of Venice film festival #Visaaranai is the first Tamil feature to enter in a competitive category (sic),” Dhanush tweeted on Wednesday.

Directed and co-produced by Indian national award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran, Visaaranai is based on true events and is about police interrogation techniques and brutality.

The film, which is yet to hit the Indian screens, stars Dinesh, Anandhi, Ajay Ghosh, Samuthirakani, Murugadoss and Misha Ghosal in important roles.

Visaaranai happens to be Dhanush’s second film as producer to get international recognition, after the critically acclaimed Kaaka Muttai.
