ABC said Tuesday it is giving freshman comedy Dr. Ken a full season order.

The show stars Ken Jeong, who plays a physician, husband and easily irritated father of two. The comedian, known for his roles in The Hangover franchise and on the TV show Community, also serves as a writer and executive producer on the show.

Jeong’s co-stars include Jonathan Slavin, who plays a devoted male nurse at the practice; Dave Foley, who plays Ken’s boss; and Suzy Nakamura, who plays his wife, Allison.

Since its debut on October 2, the show has averaged 6.6 million viewers and a 1.5/6 rating in the desired 18-to-49-year-old demographic, according to Nielsen rating.

The network reported that Dr. Ken, produced by Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios, is improving the Friday night 8.30pm slot by 25 per cent year-to-year. It is ABC’s top-rated comedy in the time period in three years.

ABC recently also gave its freshman drama Quantico, which stars Priyanka Chopra, six more episodes.
