Sasi Kumar gets an image makeover in ‘Bramman’

Dreams are an intrinsic part of our lives. While some dreams may be realised, others remain just that.

Bramman marks the directorial debut of Socrates. For this native of Thanjavur, who has worked in the film industry for the past 25 years, Bramman is the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream.

“This is a story of two individuals who nurture different dreams. While one achieves his dreams, the other is not so lucky,” Socrates, a former associate of Kamal Haasan, says.

Playing the lead roles are Sasi Kumar and Naveen Chandra, who made an impressive debut in Telugu film Andala Rakshashi. “Sasi Kumar plays Siva, an honest, young man and a do-gooder. Often, he becomes a laughing stock for having not achieved his dreams.”

Kumar — best remembered for the Madurai-based Subramaniapuram — who has until now played rural characters, dons a city-based look in Bramman. Miss Uttarakhand Lavanya Tripathi plays his character’s love interest.

“Lavanya plays Gayathri, a mass media student who is bold and independent,” Socrates, who has written the story, adds. “This story emphasises that those who fail to realise their dreams are in no way inferior to achievers.”

“We have made an honest film and I believe Bramman will be a trend-setter.”

Socrates’ next dream is to direct his mentor, the legendary Haasan.

Bramman, produced by K. Manju and Anto Joseph, has music scored by Devi Sri Prasad. Jomon T. John is the cinematographer. Comedians Santhanam and Parotta Suri are also part of the cast.
