‘Dumbo’ takes flight in Tim Burton’s live-action film

Dumbo takes flight in the first trailer for Disney and Tim Burton’s live-action Dumbo, which expands the flying elephant’s back story and delves into the underbelly of the circus that recruits him.

In Ehren Kruger’s screenplay, former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his two children (Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins) are enlisted by circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) to care for the timid calf, whose oversized ears have made him the laughing stock of an already struggling circus.

When they discover that Dumbo can fly, Medici’s circus makes a comeback and attracts entrepreneur VA Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for Dreamland, his latest glitzy entertainment venture, according to a Disney statement.

Dumbo’s awe-inspiring journey and his loving relationship with Holt’s daughter are reinforced in the trailer as the elephant’s star continues to rise until Holt learns “that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.”

The films renders Dumbo in state-of-the-art visual effects, and the teaser is set to a haunting rendition of Baby Mine, the Oscar-nominated song from Walt Disney’s 1941 version of Dumbo, performed in the new trailer by Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora. (The original Dumbo won an Oscar for musical score.)

The new film flies into theatres on March 29, 2019.
