Slumdog Millionaire beauty Freida Pinto is set to be the latest face of Estee Lauder in a deal reportedly worth £200,000. The Mumbai-born actress, 24, will join superstars Liz Hurley and Gwyneth Paltrow as the make-up giant's “spokesmodels''.

Newcomer Freida — who just months ago was struggling to get work — will be the firm's first Indian face. Bollywood expert Taran Adarsh said last night: “Freida is hot property right now.'' Last night the star's spokesman Anirban Das Blah said he could not comment on the report before Estee Lauder releases a statement. But he did not deny the megabucks deal and added: “We are getting two or three offers every day from national as well as international firms.''

Former model Freida plays a long-lost childhood sweetheart in Danny Boyle's Slumdog hit which last month scooped eight Oscars. Her next role will be in a new Woody Allen film alongside Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Hopkins and Antonio Banderas. It starts filming in London in July.

Britney's smoke screen

Britney Spears is being protected by a smoke screen during her hectic tour of live shows. The returning pop princess has had special provision made for her smoking habit while she's rehearsing and at venues for her raunchy Circus show. "Britney has tried but never really managed to kick her smoking habit," says a Circus insider. "She has cut down a lot but when she does have to step out for a smoke, special provision has been made to make sure she is not seen and certainly not photographed. It's just not good for her image to be seen puffing away between shows."

Lady's mum goes Ga Ga

Pop diva Lady GaGa has become so well know for her striking pop image that even her own mother thinks of her as GaGa. The 22-year-old singer, real name Stefani Germanotta, got her pop alias from the hit Queen song Radio GaGa, and it's not just with her fans that the name has stuck. "My mum calls me Gaga now," says the Just Dance star. "My family really respect all the hard work and achievements I've done so to them I am GaGa. I think it's cute that they call me that."

Terminator kills Spider-man for Bryce

Hollywood beauty Bryce Dallas Howard is even more excited about battling killer robots in Terminator Salvation than she was about swinging with Spider-Man. The 28-year-old actress got her big break in Spider-Man 3 but says her role in T4 opposite Christian Bale is even more of a thrill. "The funny thing is before I got the role I was on the Terminator websites checking out the gossip on the new movie because I'm a huge fan," says Bryce. "When I heard Christian was cast I was so excited about the movie, then to be offered a role myself was almost too much. I'm such a geek."

Seth stung by Hornet regime

Movie funnyman Seth Rogan is feeling a sting in the tail of his big blockbuster role as The Green Hornet - he has to get fit! The 27-year-old Pineapple Express star is frantically working out and dieting to be ready for his lead role in the comic book movie. But while most of Hollywood revels in healthy living, Seth can't wait to get back to his old ways.
"Right now I work out, I eat well and it's terrible," says the usually rotund actor. "I hate what I have become. It's such a restricted diet. I've been eating nothing but sushi."

Ange's dad gets bad

Hollywood veteran John Voight has long been painted as the villain in his feud with daughter Angelina Jolie and now he's getting bad on screen too.

The 70-year-old actor says he had no qualms about being the new baddie on hit TV show 24 opposite Kiefer Sutherland. "It's fun to play the bad guy," says Voight. "It's going to be interesting to see what the audience thinks.
I'm hoping the audience will like what I'm doing and I can carry on being bad."

Chris Brown to pay £7million to Rihanna

Rihanna's lover Chris Brown will pay her more than £7million if he “as much as squeezes her arm the wrong way'', it has been reported. R & B star Brown - accused of two assaults on the singer - will also appear on US chat shows with her to discuss his anger counselling, with Oprah Winfrey the first choice. The 19-year-old star is also said to have agreed to the deal as part of what his management team called “Project Mea Culpa'' in an attempt to save his career.

A source said his management team were “trying to turn a bad situation into something good''. Brown allegedly attacked Rihanna, 21, at a pre-Grammy party in LA last month. They have since made up. He faces four years' jail if convicted. Despite the severity of the alleged attack the couple have had a reconciliation - much against the wishes of Rihanna's family and friends.

The source said: "Obviously this is a public relations campaign, but it only will work if there's genuine healing, contrition and a path to preventing future problems. "It's another example of trying to turn a bad situation into something good where people can learn to change habits."

Watchmen scores big

Comic book movie adaptation Watchmen has scored the biggest opening of 2009 after taking in an estimated $55.7 million (£39.8 million) at the U.S. box office over the weekend. The adaptation of Alan Moore's celebrated graphic novel started strongly, taking in a whopping $25 million (£17.85 million) on its opening day.

The film, starring Patrick Wilson and Malin Akerman, opened in 3,611 cinemas across America on Friday - the widest theatre count ever for an R-rated film. Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail came in second with an $8.8 million (£6.3 million) weekend take and Liam Neeson thriller Taken was third. Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire came in fourth - 17 weeks after the movie was released in America.

Outside the U.S., Watchmen also scored big - it took in $27.5 million (£19.6 million) at 5,097 in 45 territories to claim the top spot at the international market too. Gran Torino, Marley & Me and Slumdog Millionaire are among the other movies doing very well at the box office outside the U.S.

Paris Hilton celebrates 28th birthday

Paris Hilton's ridiculously over-the-top birthday celebrations have continued - with the heirhead flying 20 pals to Las Vegas by private jet and partying until 5.30am. Once there she was toasted by new boyfriend Doug Reinhardt. The Hills star raised his drink "to the world's prettiest girl" before spending the evening smooching the blonde hotel heiress - who turned 28 more than two weeks ago, on February 17th.

The bizarre party included a Pink carpet, private gig by Chester French, giant birthday cupcake, circus acts and a drum band dressed as Sesame Street characters. Paris and her gang arrived at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday evening glammed up for a night on the tiles. Paris looked like a true golden girl in her sparkly gold mini-dress and headband and basked in the attention she was receiving from her adoring new man.

The entire party began their evening with dinner at posh eaterie Nobu before heading down a specially arranged pink carpet to the hotel's Body English nightclub for a boogie. American band Chester French, whose singer Max Drummey was briefly married to peaches geldof, arrived to perform a couple of tracks especially for Paris. And at the end of the evening 'birthday girl' Paris was presented with a giant cake shaped like a pink mushroom topped with a butterfly, surrounded by her favorite red velvet cupcakes, as the whole club sang Happy Birthday.

During the party, Paris - no stranger to cheesy moments - got up on stage to thank everyone for coming and to gush about her new love, Doug. She told the crowd, "My man is right over there, the sexiest man in the world," before singing her candy pop single Stars Are Blind especially for him. At 3am Paris and her pals decided they were not done yet and headed up to the hotel's plush penthouse suite to continue their celebrations. They were greeted by the Sesame Street band, playing in a room filled with balloons and circus performers.

The ostentatious bash was the latest in a long line of parties Paris lined up to celebrate her birthday. She enjoyed an early bash in New York during Fashion Week followed by a trip to Tokyo and plenty of nights on the tiles in LA.

And it didn't end there - as Paris hinted there would be further celebrations taking place last night. During the posh party TV star Paris was heard telling pals: "Tonight will be more low key so that for tomorrow we will do it up, and who knows someone might get arrested, but we are in Vegas, so let's party!"

Tom Cruise plans no-frills trip

Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is all set to camp it up across America. We can reveal that he will be turning his back on luxury hotels and five-star resorts to take wife Katie and daughter Suri on a no-frills trip in the US.

And Katie, 30, can't wait to dive into a tent with her husband – who can cook up a spaghetti storm under the stars. She said: “We love the outdoors.

Once when we were camping Tom made his pasta carbonara for me. “He knows exactly how to do it. A pinch of this, a pinch of that. He has a recipe, but he also kind of improvises by himself. You have to do the egg at a certain time.'' It sounds yummy, though Katie admits that she probably won't be helping her 46-year-old husband at the stove. “I don't really cook that much,'' she said. “Though I do make cupcakes.'' Tom and family will be off to bond with nature at the end of the month, when he finishes promoting his new movie Valkyrie.

He was inspired by the great Brazilian outdoors while he was working down in South America earlier this year but, unsurprisingly, they won't be travelling completely alone. An insider told us: “They'll be accompanied by a friend from the church of Scientology, as Tom never likes to be too far away from his religion. They will also have security camped down the road to keep any unwelcome people at bay.''

Well, the smell of Tom's carbonara will have people – and wildlife – flocking from miles around… “They are certainly likely to cause a bit of a frenzy,'' agreed our source. “But the whole point of them moving away from luxury holidays is to do things as a normal family.' Suri will be three next month and Tom and Katie want her to experience as much normality as possible. Our source added: “This is what Tom wants for Suri. He doesn't want her to miss out on the things he and Katie enjoyed as kids, just because she is growing up in the spotlight.''
