Tamer says his fans are his biggest strength and premiering films here is a tradition
Dubai: Arab music and film icon Tamer Hosny lit up the red carpet in Dubai during the UAE premiere of his latest film Restart, calling the city “welcoming” and full of warmth.
“I just came from Saudi Arabia where I had another premiere—it was amazing. And just like Saudi, Dubai has always been incredibly warm and friendly. The love I receive from my fans keeps me going,” Hosny told Gulf News in an exclusive sit-down interview.
Hosny, who looked dapper in a blazer paired with white sporty shoes and a crisp shirt, arrived fashionably late but made it a point to greet fans who gathered in droves, chanting his name and asking for selfies.
“Dubai has always been a lucky city for me, whether it’s music or film,” he said. “Even though I launched this film in Egypt first, it’s a tradition for me to celebrate my premieres here.”
During the interview with GN Talks host Alena Khalife, Hosny also spoke warmly about his hit collaboration with rising star Al Shami.
“Al Shami’s sister was a huge fan—she had portraits of me on her wall. So he grew up seeing my face around and became a fan too. There’s been a strong bond between us since,” he said, adding that Al Shami is among the most promising young talents in the Arab music scene.
Reflecting on Restart, Hosny described it as a heartfelt family drama that tackles the impact of social media on personal identity.
“I play a simple guy from Egypt who goes on a long journey and ends up discovering himself through the lens of social media,” he said with a smile. “But to know the full story, you’ll have to watch the film.”
As the evening unfolded, it was clear that Tamer Hosny’s connection with Dubai—and his fans—remains as magnetic as ever.
