Photos: Inside look at Farhan Akhtar-Shibani Dandekar’s Bollywood wedding

Tears flowed and toasts were raised as Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar-Akhtar (she's officially changed her name on Instagram) shared their private wedding album with the world earlier today, giving fans an inside look into their happy day. The couple married on February 20 at a small intimate ceremony held at Farhan’s father, lyricist Javed Akhtar’s farmhouse in Khandala, on the outskirts of Mumbai.

Shibani cut a pretty bride on “the most magical day of my life,” as she posted on Instagram, sharing pictures of her father giving her away in what appeared to be a vow exchanging ceremony, for which the couple wrote their own to share on their big day.

Shibani chose to fuse the traditional Indian wedding lehenga with a white wedding gown, having designers Monica and Karishma create a special dress for her in red and beige from their Jade collection, with Deepika Padukone’s stylist, Shaleena Nathani, dressing up the bride on her day.

Shibani paired the gown with a traditional bridal veil which was dyed red to go with the fusion of the Indo-Western ceremony.

Farhan, who looked dapper in a black tux designed by Govindaa Mehta, also posted a series of images online with a message for his fans. “A few days ago, @shibanidandekar & I celebrated our union and we are deeply grateful to all those who did respect our need for privacy on the day.”

He continued further to say: “The celebration however, is incomplete without sharing some precious moments with you and seeking your blessings as we begin our journey across the skies of time, together. With love from us to you.”

Javed Akhtar, Farhan’s father, also read out a poem on the day that he had especially composed for the occasion before breaking into a dance with the bride.

Javed Akhtar’s wife, actress Shabana Azmi, was also present on the day to wish her step-son happiness on his wedding.

After the wedding, the newlyweds were treated to a song by Shankar Mahadevan who sang the title track from Farhan’s directorial debut film ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, which got the guests swaying to the music, including actor Hrithik Roshan.

The guest list at Saturday’s close-knit celebration included Farhan’s ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ co-star Roshan, who was with his parents, Rakesh and Vinnie Roshan, musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, director-choreographer Farah Khan (who’s also Farhan’s cousin), directors Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Ashutosh Gowariker, Farhan’s creative and business partner, Excel Entertainment co-founder Ritesh Sidhwani, and the couple’s close friend, Rhea Chakraborty (pictured), who came along with her brother, Shouwik.

This is 48-year-old Farhan’s second marriage. Adhuna Bhabani, hairstylist and founder of BBlunt, is his first wife and mother of their two daughters, Shakya (22) and Akira (15).

Farhan and Shibani first met on the sets of the 2015 reality show ‘I Can Do It’, which the actor-director-singer had hosted. The two started dating soon thereafter and made their first public appearance as a couple during Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s wedding reception. – With inputs from IANS
