Workshop lists intangible cultural heritage
Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach) is seeking to raise awareness on registering elements of the UAE's intangible heritage.
The authority recently held a workshop on including cultural elements into the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage kept by Unesco.
The initiative follows the UAE's successful registration of falconry as a living human heritage. The workshop looked at registering "Sadou", traditional weaving skills in the UAE, and children's games (including Saqlah, Tilah, Jahif, Dasees, Almayana, Khusa Bosa).
These two files will be presented this month and will try to preserve key elements of the intangible heritage. Mohammad Khalaf Al Mazroui, adviser for Culture and Heritage in the Court of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Director General of Adach said Adach "has a strategic plan in place to register more elements of the UAE's rich cultural heritage at Unesco".
