Disneyland Abu Dhabi will bring the iconic stories and magical experiences to the UAE
The magic of Disney is set to come alive in Abu Dhabi, creating a world of wonder, imagination, and unforgettable memories. Disneyland Abu Dhabi will infuse groundbreaking technology and breathtaking design to bring Disney’s iconic stories and magical experiences to the UAE.
In May 2025, The Walt Disney Company announced its first new theme park in over 15 years, selecting Abu Dhabi over several global contenders. Located on Yas Island, this marks Disney’s seventh destination worldwide — and the first in the Middle East.
Here’s what we know about Abu Dhabi’s brand-new Disney destination in Yas Island.
Set along the Yas waterfront, Disneyland Abu Dhabi promises signature Disney entertainment, immersive storytelling, themed accommodations, unique dining and retail experiences — all within a park that blends futuristic innovation with cultural authenticity.
Miral Chairman Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak says, “What we are creating with Disney in Abu Dhabi is a whole new world of imagination — an experience that will inspire generations across the region and the world, creating magical moments and memories that families will treasure forever.”
The design will fuse Disney’s rich heritage with elements inspired by the UAE’s traditions and aesthetic. According to Robert A. Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, the park will be “authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati”. It will be a one-of-a-kind experience rather than a replica of existing Disney parks.
Yes, there will be a castle — but not the traditional European kind. Instead, a shimmering, futuristic tower will anchor the park. “It will rise from this land in spectacular fashion,” Iger says in a press statement, “blending contemporary architecture with cutting-edge technology to offer deeply immersive entertainment in modern, unexpected ways.”
Disneyland Abu Dhabi is projected to open in the early 2030s. When it does, it’s expected to be the most technologically advanced Disney park to date. It will also be the first Disney resort set on an accessible shoreline, just 20 minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi.
The park is being developed, built, and operated by Miral, the Abu Dhabi-based company behind several of Yas Island’s major attractions, including Warner Bros. World and Ferrari World. Creative development and oversight will come from Disney Imagineering, the powerhouse behind Disney’s global parks, resorts, and cruise ships.
Abu Dhabi’s strategic location makes it ideal. It’s a short-to-medium-haul flight from Europe, Asia, and Africa, and only a few hours from India. With one-third of the world’s population within a four-hour flight radius, Disneyland Abu Dhabi is poised to become a magnet for regional and international tourists alike.
“This isn’t about building another theme park,” says Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General of Tourism for Abu Dhabi, in the press statement. “It’s about defining Abu Dhabi as a global destination where culture, entertainment, and luxury intersect.”
Abu Dhabi’s summers are hot, but the region’s expertise in climate-controlled indoor attractions ensures year-round comfort. Like Warner Bros. World and Ferrari World, Disneyland Abu Dhabi will likely feature enclosed, air-conditioned spaces, along with shaded walkways, indoor rides, and cooled attractions.
Abu Dhabi’s appeal lies in its blend of thrill, culture, and luxury. Yas Island already boasts: Ferrari World, home to the world’s fastest roller coaster; Yas Waterworld, a massive water park with slides, pools, and family fun; SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, a new marine life park with indoor experiences.
Culturally, Saadiyat Island is home to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which drew 1.4 million visitors last year. The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum are under construction.
“Abu Dhabi’s unique appeal lies in the diversity of our tourism offering. For thrill-seekers, we have record-breaking roller coasters and dune bashing in the desert. For culture lovers, historic sites like Al Ain Oasis and institutions like the Saadiyat museums. And for luxury travellers, world-class dining, private island resorts, and high-end shopping,” Al Geziry says.
Abu Dhabi is a safe, reliable tourism hub and the UAE ranks highly on the 2024 Global Peace Index. The UAE is a good alternative to the US as it has some of the friendliest visa regulations — many nationalities can enter the enter visa-free or with an e-visa. Moreover, one-third of the world’s population is located within a four-hour flight of the country.
With its strategic location, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, and now the magic of Disney, Abu Dhabi is poised to become one of the world’s most exciting travel destinations.
