The problem of losing your mobile with its essential numbers may become a thing of the past with the launch of the MobileSync service in January.

"It allows all mobile phone users to back up the entire phone book content of their mobile phone to our secure, branded website," said Sean Butler, managing partner, MobileSync.

Using SyncML, a universal synchronisation protocol that can be used by more than 125 different types of the latest mobile phones, the MobileSync's web-based service allows mobile users to set up and maintain a full back up directory online, he said.

Another benefit to becoming a MobileSync user is being able to provide further information regarding each contact, compatible with all major email exchangers ie Lotus Notes, Outlook and Plaxo.

"For example, you can add up to six different phone numbers, four different addresses, website addresses and even a small note about the contact, and then direct all the new content from the web-based directory to your mobile phone wirelessly using SyncML, which synchronises the contents of your mobile phonebook and your MobileSync website account," he said.

This synchronisation can be done as many times as the user wants: daily, weekly or monthly. To enlist, users must log onto www.mobilesyncme.com, and can use the services against a Dh50 annual fee, he added.
