High Hopes champions rare disease awareness in the UAE’s Year of Community

In a powerful initiative to raise awareness for rare diseases, High Hopes Pediatric Therapy Center led a community-driven event, uniting families, advocates, and supporters to highlight the urgent need for early intervention, support, and inclusion for children with rare conditions.

As part of the UAE’s Year of Community, the initiative reinforced the importance of creating a supportive ecosystem for children and families navigating the challenges of rare diseases.

“At High Hopes, our mission extends beyond therapy; we are building a community where children with rare diseases and their families can find support, education, and hope,” said Aida Barghout, General Manager of High Hopes Pediatric Therapy Center.

“This initiative is not just about awareness, but about ensuring that families know they are not alone and that resources are available to help their children thrive.”

The event featured a remarkable show of solidarity, with participants—including Dubai resident and endurance athlete Stephen Melia—who ran 50km across the High Hopes play area to amplify the voices of families affected by rare conditions. Melia’s run was a symbol of resilience and advocacy, reinforcing the mission of High Hopes to ensure every child has access to life-changing therapy and support.

Stephen Melia, who took on the challenge to raise awareness for the cause, shared his perspective on the initiative: “Raising awareness for rare diseases is about making sure that families feel seen, heard, and supported. High Hopes is doing incredible work to provide children with access to therapy and resources that can change their lives.”

The initiative also highlighted the UAE government’s unwavering support for people of determination, emphasizing early intervention, advanced therapies, and inclusive healthcare policies.
