Live stream: Solar Impulse 2 plane tours globe

Dubai: Viewers around the world can now follow in real time the world’s first solar-powered flight that aims to circle the globe in five months.

The only aircraft capable of flying day and night without fuel, Solar Impulse 2 took off early Monday morning from Abu Dhabi.

A live stream has been set up to allow viewers to take a peek at what's going on at the aircraft in real time. It also shows the ground team monitoring the flight.

The zero-fuel plane, piloted by Swiss explorers André  Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard, is expected to spend a total of 12 hours in its first flight to Oman.

Update: Solar Impulse 2 lands in Oman

From Oman, the plane will fly to Ahmedabad in India, then to several other cities in Burma, China, United States, Europe or North Africa, before flying back to Abu Dhabi.

The plane that is powered solely by the sun is expected to travel 35,000 kilometers around the world in 25 days over the course of roughly five months.

The public is encouraged to support the historic adventure by following a live-stream of the voyage.
